Today mark the second year aniversary of this terrible tragedy, that massive earthquake that destroyed Port-au-Prince the capital of Haiti and many of the surrounding towns. Today, once again, we pause to remember the lives lost by this disaster. We mourn the lost of our loved ones, some of whom remain buried under piles of rubble that have yet to give way to new homes for those people who have lost all they worked for their entire life.
Today is also the day when we decide that we will not stop, we will not be discouraged. Though the road is slippery, tortuous and long, we will go on and do our part to help rebuild this nation for the future generations. While others waste time to point fingers at government and others, we call on every Haitian and friends of Haiti to join hands with us so together we can make a difference in the lives of those children who have lost parents, friends, teachers, neighbors and so much more and long to walk back into a classroom and start their lives over. Talk is cheap and will always be. Blame does not get anything done. Action is what we must take to put Haiti on the road to true and solid recovery and reconstruction. We all have a part to play in the recovery process. $1.00 by itself may not represent much, but when 1 million of it is collected and managed properly with transparency and accountability, it can make a significant difference for many people for years to come. Today is a day, but you and I can make today THE day when we decide to take action and give Haiti an opportunity to look different one year from now. You decide. It’s your call.
